Flooring for Gymnasiums, Studios & Dance
Comfortable underfoot, easy to clean, and forgiving on the body. Kradal Smart Foam is an impact-absorbing floor finished with a sealed vinyl surface — warmer and more hygienic than rubber, with the smooth, free-moving feel of a timber floor and the injury protection of a cushioned one. Ideal for fitness studios, dance and movement spaces, and senior exercise facilities.
The trouble with rubber flooring
Rubber has been the default gym surface for decades, but it carries real drawbacks. Rubber is porous — it absorbs sweat, spills, and moisture, which makes it difficult to clean properly and allows odour and bacteria to build up over time. It's cold and hard underfoot, unwelcoming for floor work, stretching, or barefoot activity. And it ages poorly: scuffed, faded, and tired-looking within a few years, pulling down the appearance of an otherwise well-presented space.
For studios, senior fitness, and allied-health settings — where comfort, hygiene, and appearance matter as much as durability — rubber is rarely the right answer.

A cleaner, more inviting floor
Kradal pairs an impact-absorbing closed-cell polyurethane core with a sealed, impervious vinyl wear surface. That combination solves rubber's problems at once: the surface is non-porous and easily cleaned, it doesn't absorb moisture or odour, and it's available in a wide range of finishes — including warm timber looks — that keep a space looking its best for years. Underneath, the foam delivers cushioned comfort and genuine impact absorption.
Warm and comfortable
The Smart Foam core is thermally insulating, so the floor doesn't draw heat from the body the way rubber, concrete, or tile does. The result is a surface that feels noticeably warmer and more comfortable underfoot — a real difference for yoga, stretching, floor work, and any barefoot or low-impact activity, and especially valued in senior and rehabilitation settings. Combined with the cushioned give of the foam, it makes standing, kneeling, and floor-based exercise far more comfortable than a hard or rubber surface.

Moves like timber, protects like foam
A smooth vinyl surface over a firm, resilient foam core gives Kradal a feel dancers and movers know well: enough grip for control, enough glide for pivots, turns, and steps — much like a timber or vinyl performance floor. The difference is what's underneath. The impact-absorbing core reduces the load on ankles, knees, and hips through repeated movement, and softens the consequences of a fall. For dance studios, movement classes, and functional training, it offers free, natural movement with a level of joint and injury protection a bare timber or rubber floor can't match. Finishes can be selected to tune the surface feel to the activity.

Clinically proven injury reduction
Kradal's impact-absorbing performance isn't a marketing claim, it's been measured. A 30-month randomised controlled trial published in Injury Prevention (BMJ Publishing Group) found a substantial reduction in fall-related injuries on Kradal compared with conventional flooring; after adjusting for covariates, the system achieved approximately 60% injury reduction. In a fitness or movement setting, particularly senior exercise where a fall can be serious, the protection is built into the floor itself, working all the time, for everyone using the space.

Hygienic and easy to maintain
The sealed vinyl surface is non-porous, antimicrobial, and waterproof. Sweat, spills, and cleaning products wipe away rather than soaking in, seams can be welded for a continuous easy-clean finish, and the floor resists the odour and staining that plague porous rubber. It stays hygienic and presentable through heavy daily use — a meaningful operating advantage for any facility managing cleaning time and member impressions.

Monday Club Balmain is a pioneering over-50s strength and movement facility — and it's floored throughout with Kradal. Members train on resistance equipment, move through class spaces, and exercise daily on a surface that's warm, comfortable, easy to clean, and engineered to reduce injury if someone falls. It's a working, publicly accessible example of Kradal in exactly the kind of active environment this page describes. Drop in to feel the floor underfoot and see how it performs in daily use.
